What do you love about programming in Ruby?

I recently asked in Bluesky this question and most of the answers resonated with me. They also give a very good idea on what you can expect from the community.

I'm sharing below some of them below, to provide motivation and so you can compare with you're own experience too:

If you put in the effort to make the code easy to understand, Ruby is there to help and support you all the way.— Radan

A ton of new stuff has been added to the language over time, but very few backwards incompatible changes have been made to most core functionality. I can get by with the things I learned literally 20 years ago, but also tinker with the new stuff whenever I find time and energy to do it.— Gregory Brown

Also, the focus on programmer happiness brings a human element that many Ruby devs then extend to the things they build for others, and so it is appealing to people who are interested in more than just computing for its own sake.— Gregory Brown

The highest priority is programmer happiness.— Peter Boling

Ruby isn’t perfect, but I’ve noticed that any valid criticism for Ruby is found only by diving very deep into its implementation. The areas that most programmers use most of the time is nearly flawless. Beyond that, it’s the syntax for me. It really is expressive in a way few languages are.— Sean
