Install rv as a mise tool

In previous articles, I covered how to install any Ruby version using either mise or rv.

If you’re already using mise, you can install it by running this command: mise use aqua:spinel-coop/rv or by adding a line in your config.toml file:

[tools]
"aqua:spinel-coop/rv" = "latest"

After that, you can start using any of the rv commands, for example:

  • rv run myscript.rb
  • rvx hanami new

It works out of the box because Aqua tools can be used natively in mise; the aqua registry is compiled into the mise binary at release. The mise documentation provides more details.

The next step would be for Mise and rv to share a set of Rubies without duplication. There is already an open issue in the rv repository to create a plugin for that.

If you are a mise user, give it a try. I would love to get any feedback, questions, or insights.

À la prochaine!
